The History of Birding in Cincinnati

This page is not, by any means, a complete history of birding in this area. Rather, it provides a few glimpses into the past:

The most recent published monograph on the birds of the Cincinnati Area is Birds of Southwestern Ohio , by Emerson Kemsies and Worth Randle, published in 1953. Randle began work on, but never completed, a revision of that book.

Lots of states have birds named after them - Kentucky, Louisiana and Rhode Island come to mind quickly. But not may cities are so honored. Quick, name a city besides Nashville that has a namesake bird. Cincinnati, of course!
