After taking photos of a harrier at MWW I stopped at Lost Bridge to see the geese. At one point what seemed like 1000's flew in from the South. There was 1 large all white goose but it was too far to ID. 4-image pano to give at least some idea of how many there are.

Thanks for posting the picture Alan. You must have taken it on Saturday because the water was still open and you still had a "white goose". Sunday most of the water was frozen over leaving a fraction of the geese seen earlier and apparently pushing the rare geese out (except for one Cackling Goose spotted by Paul Krusling).

Group picture was Sunday afternoon at 3 PM. I did manage a flight shot of a white goose coming into the pit shortly after 2. I think it's way too far for positive ID but if you want to take a look it's at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nsxbirder/4264076099/

A lot of the geese on Sunday afternoon had relocated to the fields opposite the gravel pits. But they would often fly back over to the icy pits, as there were several hunters actively hunting the fields.

Anyone planning on going out the morning of either thursday, friday or saturday? I'd like to try and find the Ross Goose as well as see the longspurs, but I don't own a scope. Anyone I could meet up with?

I went down to the Lost Bridge Saturday afternoon and saw two Snow geese (White Phase) and one Ross’s Goose(They were swimming together so it was easy to compare the two species), but no Greater White-fronted geese and no Cackling Geese. I did see a single Cackling goose amongst a group of Canada geese on Sunday, by my estimate, one tiny goose out of several thousand bigger ones. I saw no rare geese today (see post). My point is, get down there soon. The pits are freezing. Open water is found in a ribbon only on the north end of the pit. In a day or two it will be completely frozen over and for a while, no ducks will be there.
